Travel restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic have prompted citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to look for vacation spots in a variety of destinations in their own country. In order to help in the promotion and discovery of domestic destinations, the initiative “Odmori u BiH” has in recent months, with the support of the European Union, organized trips for representatives of BiH media.
“We visited Bihać, Ostrožac and Bosanska Krupa and enjoyed the beauties of the area along the beautiful Una river. We were delighted with the trip to Tuzla, Srebrenik and Gradačac, we visited the „vizier’s“ Travnik and „royal“ Jajce. We took a peek into the Sutjeska National Park and Trebinje, enjoyed Blagaj, Mostar and Počitelj, traveled to Ravno, Neum and Stolac. We discovered a part of what Međugorje, Ljubuški, Grude and Široki Brijeg have to offer, got to know more about Kupres, Livno, Tomislavgrad and Blidinje, and the last trip this year was to Banja Luka“, explains Nataša Musa from the „Odmori u BiH“ initiative.
Through their stories, articles and reports the participants of the trips shared their experiences on riding old traditional boats on Trebišnjica river, the adventurous “Ćiro bicycle path”, visit to the Kastel fortress, the waterfall in Jajce, necropolises of stećak tombstones and other various tourist attractions, cultural and historical heritage sites and natural riches of these destinations, thus contributing to the promotion and popularization of the potentials of the tourism sector.
At a time when the arrival of international tourists has been significantly reduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the „Odmori u BiH“ initiative aims to encourage as many as possible BiH citizens, diaspora and residents of the countries of the region to spend their holidays at destinations in BiH. Also, in addition to interesting destinations, these trips presented many projects which the European Union supported in previous years and which contributed to the development of the tourist offer and the entire tourism sector in BiH, and thus to preserving existing and creating new jobs.
The marketing platform of BiH tourism – www.odmoriubih.ba – was launched within the „Odmori u BiH“ initiative, with the aim of offering in one place the biggest possible selection of vacation offers in Bosnia and Herzegovina and inviting guests from BiH and the region to spend their holidays in some of the beautiful destinations in the country, where they can experience the untouched nature, rich cultural and historical heritage and exciting adventures.
The EU continues to support both this initiative and the entire BiH tourism sector in a speedy recovery from the effects of the pandemic, and in further promotion of the country and its tourism potentials in order for it to position itself as a unique destination, attractive on the international market as well.
