Medical equipment donated by Violeta arrives in Sarajevo on flight paid by the EU

Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH Ambassador Johann Sattler and Chair of the BiH Presidency Šefik Džaferović welcomed this evening the plane from Shanghai which brought over medical equipment donated to citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Violeta company. The transportation costs were fully covered by the European Union.

Equipment delivered today included 6 ventilators and 420,000 pieces of various medical and protective equipment for medical workers in BiH.

EU Ambassador Sattler said: “I am very happy that the European Union was able to contribute to the fight against the common enemy – the coronavirus – and financed the costs of the flight transporting equipment for the entire BiH. I am very grateful to Violeta company for this assistance and excellent cooperation in this project, and to Chairman Dzaferovic for being here today. On my and on behalf of the EU I would like to say: we have been and we will continue to stand by you, by Bosnia and Herzegovina. This country is our home and BiH’s home is in Europe.”

The European Union financed the equipment’s transportation from China to ensure its delivery in the shortest possible time and help respond to the urgent needs of health institutions across the country.

The equipment arrived with a cargo plane, the capacity of which was fully utilised by also including medical protection equipment donated by the City of Shanghai to the City of Sarajevo.

The EU has to date ensured €7 million to respond to BiH’s urgent medical needs in the fight against coronavirus (COVID-19), and an additional €73.5 million will be provided to mitigate economic consequences.
