European Researchers’ Night in BiH: EU celebrates female scientists

The EU dedicated its participation in this year’s European Researchers’ Night to female scientists. Throughout the night two actresses featuring Marie Curie and Mileva Marić, through experiments and interactive games, showed that women stand behind some of the most important scientific discoveries

“This night is special because it celebrates science and what the science and research can do for us. There are programmes for the development of science in the European Union, and Bosnia and Herzegovina has full access to the funds within these programs. There is only a need to encourage young people to apply. We especially, would like to encourage more girls and women to make such choices and to get involved in science and research,” stated Khaldoun Sinno, Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina as he opened the European Night of Researchers in Sarajevo.

Young BiH researcher Tarik Suljić from Visoko, also presented his work at the well visited EU Info Center stand. He spoke about innovations in the area of stem cells.

In addition to Sarajevo, the EU Delegation was also present at the Researchers night in Banja Luka and Mostar.

The European Night of Researchers is a manifestation of science held throughout Europe on the last Friday in September. Under the slogan “Creating a Better Tomorrow”, the European Night of Researchers is marked in Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Travnik, Goražde, Mostar and Bijeljina. This public and open air event aims to raise awareness about research, dispel stereotypes about researchers and entice young people to take up a research career in the future.
