Europe in my Region Blog Contest

Enter the EU in my Region Blog Contest and win a trip to Brussels for some journalism training

Write a blog post in any language about any EU-funded project by 27 June and you might be one of four Winners invited to the European Week of Regions and Cities this October as a fully accredited journalist, with training in mobile and storytelling-based journalism thrown in.

Entering is easy

As in last year’s competition, all you need to do is:

  • write and publish a blog post about any EU-funded project
  • email your post’s address (URL) to us before 27 June, 2017

We’ll accept up to 60 posts submitted by the deadline which meet the rules. Editorial independence is guaranteed. If you don’t have your own blog, no problem: we’re looking for interesting pieces on one of our projects, wherever it’s published. See also below: How do you define a blog post, and how many can I enter?
We will translate your post into English (if necessary), republish it here and promote it via our social channels (Facebook, Twitter) using the #EUinmyRegion hashtag.

Four Winners

All posts will be judged by an independent jury. Their scores will be combined with the amount of web traffic and social shares each post receives to choose three Winners (see last year’s winners).
The web traffic and social shares will also be used to choose a fourth “People’s Choice” Winner.

Great Prizes

All four Winners will be invited to Brussels to attend the European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC, 9-12 October 2017), as fully accredited journalists.
This means:

  • the European Commission will cover all travel and accommodation costs
  • you will be able to access all EWRC sessions
  • we’ll help organise your programme to meet speakers, other attendees, staff from the various EU Institutions, and more.

Last year, the Winners thought it was a great prize (see video interview), but this year it’s better, as Winners will also attend training sessions in Mobile and Storytelling Journalism, both before (October 8) and during the event. And while you’ll need to bring your own phone, you’ll keep the other kit (see Storytelling training for Winners).
We hope all Winners will use these new skills to create and publish posts and videos during and after the event, as we’ll also translate, publish and promote up to three such posts per Winner.

The clock is ticking

You have complete editorial independence but not much time:

  • the earlier you enter, the more time your post has to get traffic, which will help you win
  • the competition closes once the 60th post has been checked and approved, or on 27 June, whichever comes first.

If you’re not interested in entering yourself, please tell someone who might be and give it some visibility on Twitter and Facebook with #EUinmyRegion.

If you are, then see also:

And finally, don’t forget: if you take a good photo for your blog (and you should), why not enter it in the photo competition, and win a course with a pro photographer?
