Statement by Ambassador Sorensen on today agreement by BiH political parties

Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina/EU Special Representative Ambassador Peter Sorensen welcomes today agreement by political leaders on a range of important issues, including the formation of the BiH Council of Ministers. The EU Delegation/EUSR is encouraged to see that the spirit of compromise has prevailed after months of political deadlock.

It is important that the BiH political leaders were able to find a solution on the EU related matters, i.e. the State Aid law and the Census law that are crucial for the next steps of BiH on the EU integration agenda. According to the March 2011 Foreign Affairs Council, it is also important that Bosnia and Herzegovina makes credible efforts in bringing its Constitution into compliance with the European Convention on Human Rights.

The EU Delegation/EUSR encourages the BiH authorities to continue resolving the issue of the 2012 state budget and the Global Fiscal Framework to ensure the full functioning of the state-level institutions and the fulfilment of BiH’s international obligations.

The EU Delegation/EUSR urges the relevant BiH authorities to implement today agreements without any further delay.
