Project ATRIUM-Architecture of Totalitarian Regimes of the XX Century in Urban Management

During August 2012, Rotor-Organisation for development of tourism of region based in Doboj, has selected municipalities that applied to the direct call to participate in the international project “ATRIUM-Architecture of Totalitarian Regimes of the XX Century in Urban Management”. The main objective of this project is to define and promote a Cultural Route on architecture of totalitarian regimes of 20th century, as leverage for their economic valorisation, in framework of the South East European Transnational Cooperation Program.

The project involves 18 partners from 11 countries of South-East Europe, Italy, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Greece, Croatia, Serbia, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina. These countries want to put the focus of their research in different architectural heritage of totalitarian regimes, which they have experienced in the twentieth century, from the cultural and historical perspective. Project implementer in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the Rotor-organisation.

The following municipalities applied for participation in the project “ATRIUM”: City Banja Luka, Novo Sarajevo, Travnik, Gorazde, City Doboj, Teslic, Zvornik, Bosanska Krupa, Kotor Varos, Samac, Gradiska, Konjic, Novi Grad, Kozarska Dubica, Gracanica, Velika Kladusa, City Sarajevo, Lukavac, Visegrad, Brcko District, Zenica and Sarajevo Stari Grad. In September 2012, other municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina will have the opportunity to apply for participation in this important project of cultural tourism in the South East Europe.

In addition to the creation of transnational cultural route of South- East Europe, and the recognition of the status of “European culture road” by the Council of Europe, in the project is planned to create a diverse tourism product of cultural tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Promotion of cultural route and tourism products will perform future Promoting Association composed of partners from 11 countries of South-East Europe, which will continue with promotion and after completion of the project. The result of these activities is focused on the economic valorisation of architecture of the 20th century in the countries involved in joint action, capable for attracting segment of international tourism demand for cultural tourism, and to create new services and jobs.

Project implementation in Bosnia and Herzegovina will last from 04 January 2012 to 04 July 2014. Total value of the Project is 1.932.044,00 € and EU is providing 85% of total value, in amount of 1,407,076.24 €. Remaining funds in the amount of 524.967,76 is provided by other participants in the project.
