European Union supports Bosnia and Herzegovina in combating and preventing corruption

Ambassador Peter Sorensen, Head of the EU Delegation to BiH/EU Special Representative opened the official presentation of the EU funded project “Strengthening the Capacities of BiH Institutions to Combat and Prevent Corruption” today at the BiH Parliamentary Assembly building in Sarajevo.

Welcome address was also delivered by Vjekoslav Bevanda, Chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers. Sead Lisak, Director of the BiH Agency for Prevention of Corruption and Coordination of the Fight against Corruption, the FBiH and RS Ministers of Justice, Brcko District BiH Government representative and Project Team Leader spoke at the event.

The EU is funding project “Strengthening the Capacities of BiH Institutions to Combat and Prevent Corruption” from the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA 2009) in the amount of € 500.000. The project is part of a broader set of efforts of the European Union aimed at strengthening governance in BiH and is a continuation of the EU support in drafting the Anti-corruption Strategy and establishment of the BiH Agency for Prevention of Corruption and Coordination of the Fight against Corruption.

The main beneficiaries of the project are the BiH Agency for Prevention of Corruption and Coordination of the Fight against Corruption and the entity and Brcko District level bodies, designated under the Law on the Agency. In addition, professionals in the health and education sector, the Tax Administration and in public procurement systems, in Law Enforcement Agencies and the business sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina at all levels shall benefit from project activities.
