Ambassador Sorensen visits Brcko

The Head of the EU Delegation and European Union Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Peter Sorensen, accompanied by the EUFOR Commander, Major General Dieter Heidecker, and diplomats from 18 EU Member States visited Brcko on Tuesday, 16 April 2013.

Diplomats accredited to Bosnia and Herzegovina from Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Finland, Czech Republic, Spain, United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Slovenia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Italy and Sweden met with Brcko District officials to discuss the European Integration of the country and the role of the District in this important process. They also visited the Port of Brcko.

The EU diplomats also discussed with the Brcko District officials how to improve the business environment and continue the fight against corruption. “We were told that the District authorities have made fighting corruption one of the three top priorities on their agenda. No need to emphasise how important for BiH it is to effectively combat crime and corruption”, stated Ambassador Sorensen. He also praised the District authorities for their commitment in developing the Sustainable Energy Efficiency Action Plan (SEAP) and the Law on Energy Efficiency, which address the issues of energy saving and environment.
