The Head of the European Union Delegation and EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Hezegovina, Ambassador Peter Sorensen, together with UK Ambassador, Nigel Casey, Italian Ambassador, Ruggero Corrias, Hungarian Ambassador, Josef Pandur, Greek Embassy Charge d’affaires, Sotirios Demesticas, Spanish Embassy Deputy Head of Mission, Luis Bueno and Consul-General of the Republic of Croatia in Banja Luka,  Dunja Jevak visited Banja Luka on Thursday, 12 September 2013.

During the visit, Ambasador Sorensen and EU diplomats met the RS officials to discuss the burning issues which must be solved in order to allow for Bosnia and Herzegovina to progress in European integration – namely, implementation of the Sejdic-Finci judgement and the establishment of the EU coordination mechanism.

“A solution needs to be urgently found on the Sejdic-Finci especially having in mind the election year approaching. No time to lose otherwise the BiH’s EU path will be frozen and BiH citizens will lose out on further benefits if EU agenda is not progressed. The EU does not want to see BiH legging behind and the only way for the country to progress is to urgently address the key issues on the EU agenda.  What the leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina need to do now is fulfil their commitment to both their citizens and the EU”, said Ambassador Sorensen.

Ambassador Sorensen and EU diplomats also met with the municipal leadership in Banja Luka, toured the Kastel Fortress which is being reconstructed with the EU funds in the amount of 2,2 million Euro, met the local NGOs and paid a visit to the Children’s Home “Rada Vranjesevic”.

Ambassador Sorensen also met with the Bishop of Banja Luka, Franjo Komarica
