International research careers in medicine and health sciences: opportunities for BiH students

Erasmus Mundus – Western Balkans (ERAWEB), the European network of leading medical schools, is offering scholarships for academic exchange between the European Union and the students and researchers of the Western Balkans, including Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), at five academic levels: undergraduate, Master’s, doctorate and postdoctoral students, and academic staff.

Scholarships include tuition fees at the host university (where applicable), travel costs, a monthly subsistence allowance, and insurance. During the three year period of the student-exchange programme, one-month to 36-month scholarships will be awarded for undergraduates, Master’s, doctorate or postdoctoral students, or for academic staff.

For students in all four categories there will be three calls for applications, the first of which will close on April 1, 2014. Teaching staff can start any time within the programme.

Students and researchers from BiH are invited to submit their applications online through www.erasmus-westernbalkans.eu

ERAWEB, an international academic exchange programme that has grown to involve six EU universities and eight Western Balkan universities, is focusing on research in medicine and health sciences. The University of Sarajevo is among the universities that will offer this unique opportunity to its students and researchers to improve health systems and build high-quality public healthcare. Also, BiH’s researchers, among the students and researchers from other Western Balkans countries, will contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

Launched in 2011 and extended due to its success until July 2017, the ERAWEB programme will continue to address the issue of health in three ways:

1.     by enhancing the academic skills of students, researchers and teachers in the health sciences;
2.     through research that identifies factors influencing the health of the population, and
3.     through research that develops interventions designed to improve health.
