Schwarz-Schilling Welcomes HoR Adoption of Education Laws

The High Representative and EU Special Representative, Christian Schwarz-Schilling, welcomes adoption by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s House of Representatives of the state-level Higher Education Law and the Laws on Agency for Pre-Primary and Secondary Education yesterday.

“This is excellent news for school children and students alike, as the package of laws will help lift the quality of education across Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Mr Schwarz-Schilling said.

The High Representative and EU Special Representative had urged legislators to adopt the laws in his speech to parliament just hours before they were in fact adopted.

“The Higher Education Law will enable improved mobility of students and professors and recognition of higher education diplomas and degrees within the European Higher Education Area, as well as increase employment opportunities for graduates from this country in the European Union,” he added.

The High Representative and EU Special Representative now expects the House of Peoples to adopt the education reform package rapidly, so that it can come into force before the start of the new school year.
