Mostar Timelines


As a result of constructive talks in Mostar yesterday, the High Representative, Christian Schwarz-Schilling, has agreed temporarily to suspend the imposition of additional financial penalties against political parties in Herzegovina-Neretva Canton that were scheduled to come into force today.


In the course of a two-and-a-half hour meeting with the HR, all political parties agreed to appoint a Cantonal Assembly Speaker today as well as a timeline for the election of a new Prime Minister.


The timeline is the following. The Cantonal Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speakers are to be appointed today, 7 June. Parties are to present their nominations for Prime Minister on Monday, 11 June. The speaker, in consultation with the Deputy Speakers, is to nominate the official candidate to the Cantonal Assembly on Friday, 15 June. And the Government is to be approved on Friday, 22 June, and the government to be approved by the Cantonal Assembly.


If any deadline is missed, the fines will kick in automatically as laid out in the High Representative’s decision of 29 May.


In the meantime, the disbursement of party funding from the BiH, FBiH and Herzegovina-Neretva Canton budgets to the HDZ BiH, the HDZ 1990-HZ, the SDA and the SBiH remains suspended.
