European Union’s donation to increase the mobility and protection of police officers in Una-Sana Canton

Within the EU funded project ‘EU Support to Migration and Border Management in BiH’ Peter Van Der Auweraert, IOM Coordinator for the Western Balkans and Head of Mission to BiH, handed over keys of three new police vans worth over BAM 160,000 to the Ministry of the Interior of the Una Sana Canton.

This donation will significantly strengthen the work of police officers in Una-Sana Canton and increase the responsiveness and the mobility of police officers in the field.

“Equipping and strengthening our police force is one of the priorities we have set for ourselves. The staff of the Una-Sana Canton Ministry of the Interior, even in the conditions of a complicated migrant situation, show professionalism and extraordinary results every day. The EU’s support in donations of equipment and vehicles for the needs of the Special Support Unit is also of great importance, and I am pleased that the IOM mission is supporting concrete projects of the Canton Government’s activities aimed at strengthening the Ministry of the Interior of the Una-Sana Canton”, said Mustafa Ružnić, Prime Minister of Una-Sana Canton.

The project “EU Support to Migration and Border Management in Bosnia and Herzegovina” is funded by the European Union with €14.8 million and is implemented by the IOM in partnership with UNHCR, UNICEF, UNFPA and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC).
