EU supports preparation of BiH strategy to improve the election process in BiH

The kick off meeting of the project “The development of a Strategy and Action-plan to Improve the Integrity, transparency and efficiency of the Election Process in Bosnia and Herzegovina” funded by the European Union, was held on 2 September 2019 in the premises of the BiH Central Election Commission.

The project will support the implementation of one of the 14 key priorities of the European Commission’s Opinion on the application of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) for EU membership and is aimed at ensuring that elections are conducted in line with European standards by implementing OSCE/ODIHR and relevant Venice Commission recommendations.

The project will also support strengthening the institutional capacities of the Central Election Commission (CEC) in addressing technical shortcomings of the electoral process, including possible introduction of technology based tools and improving CEC’s communication with the aim to restore public confidence in the electoral process. It is expected that the project will provide a common future-oriented strategic framework for BiH, allowing also complementary funding by EU’s financial instruments, other donors and CEC for the implementation of the Action Plan.

The project “The development of a Strategy and Action-plan to Improve the Integrity, transparency and efficiency of the Election Process in Bosnia and Herzegovina” is funded through an Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) with a total value of 299,000 EUR and is implemented by the Indra Soluciones Tecnologicas de lainformacion SL, a Spanish Company with 40 years’ experience providing technology solutions and professional services for the management of electoral processes in 40 different countries.
