Tackling unemployment through development of agriculture

Agricultural areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina occupy about half of the total land area and in addition to favourable climatic conditions and workforce are sufficient preconditions to make agriculture industry attractive for many in this country.

Testimonies and success of 43 farmers from Bijeljina involved in the project “Support to local employment partnerships in BiH” financed by the European Union and implemented by the International Labour Organization (ILO) confirm that Bosnia and Herzegovina can be a significant player for this economic activity in the region.

By combining the knowledge and capabilities of these commercial farms through the local employment partnership, new jobs were created in the region of Bijeljina. In addition, it helped increase the competitiveness of local red pepper producers and processors.
