One planet, one aim and millions of volunteers in more than 150 countries came together today as part of the largest citizens’ actions in history in order to clean the planet from illegally disposed waste.

Volunteers in 60 towns and municipalities across Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in cleanup actions on the occasion of World Cleanup Day, within the Let’s Do It project.

The Office of the EU Special Representative (EUSR) in Bosnia and Herzegovina is supporting Let’s Do It for the sixth year in a row, and Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark joined volunteers this year.

„If everyone here in Greater Sarajevo picked up one piece of garbage or one plastic bottle, which the river is unfortunately still full of, 500,000 pieces of garbage would be picked up. So Let’s Do It!“ Ambassador Wigemark said, addressing enthusiastic volunteers on the Željeznica riverbank.

„It is a wonderful feeling to be part of this global action. Close your eyes and imagine millions of people from 156 countries, who came out today into streets, beaches, parks and forests, all cleaning with one goal, which is the Planet Earth without illegal dump sites,“ coordinator of the “Let’s Do It – clean the world in 1 day” action Junuz Elkaz said.

World Cleanup Day was marked as the seventh in a row “Let’s Do It – clean the world in 1 day” volunteer action in BiH. Volunteers cleaned streets, parks, mountains, riverbanks and lakes across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This year, the action was held within the global #EUBeachCleanup initiative under EU leadership on International Coastal Cleanup Day, in which EU Delegations around the world participated.
