High Representative/Vice-President Mogherini to launch a new Global Tech Panel

Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, is on 6 June launching a Global Tech Panel (#GlobalTechPanel) to foster new cooperation between diplomacy and technology, to make innovation a true force for good in an increasingly more complex and connected world.

The Global Tech Panel will bring together leaders from the tech industry and will include representatives of the private sector, academia and civil society. The aim of the Panel is to start a conversation about not just tackling the threats of the digital age, but also unleashing its potential to solve global problems together.

Most of the issues of our times cannot be solved by national governments alone. If we want our action to be effective, we must build new coalitions. Foreign policy today is no longer a matter for diplomats and policy-makers alone; we need new tools to tackle a new complexity. We can take advantage of the huge opportunities offered by technology and at the same time counter the emerging challenges posed by technology. We want to engage, starting from our Global Tech Panel“, said High Representative/Vice-President Mogherini.

The first Panel meeting will take place in the afternoon of 6 June at the European External Action Service.
