TAIEX Peer Review Mission on Freedom of Assembly in BiH

From 21 to 25 May 2018, the European Commission and the BiH Directorate for European Integration are conducting a TAIEX Peer Review Mission on Freedom of Assembly in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The aim of the mission is to provide the European Commission and the BiH authorities with an assessment of the overall situation in the country in terms of effectively ensuring the enjoyment of the right to peaceful assembly throughout the country, in line with European and international standards.

The expert assessment will contribute to inform the opinion of the European Commission on the application of Bosnia and Herzegovina for EU membership.

The mission is led by Mr Neil Jarman, an expert from an EU member state with a long experience on the topic. Mr Jarman is a fellow of the Queen’s University Belfast and chair of the ODIHR Panel on Freedom of Assembly.

Around 30 participants from across Bosnia and Herzegovina attended the mission, including police bodies, ministries of interior, as well as the BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees and the BiH Ombudsman Institution.
