Within the project “Joint Initiative to Empower Roma Civil Society in the Western Balkans and Turkey” which is financed by the European Union and implemented by Association of Citizens for the Promotion of Education of Roma “Otaharin“ and “Roma Active Albania”, the public campaign “Most Roma friendly Mayor” was launched on Wednesday, 24 January 2018 in Sarajevo.
The campaign, which will last from 24 January until 25 February is aiming at strengthening the dialogue between municipalities and Roma communities and making visible the best practice examples.
The campaign will be organized as a kind of competition with focus on positive examples in community and not pointing out the problems and blaming each other. Moreover, the competition and especially the selection criteria should emphasize the Joint Initiative project philosophy of empowerment, mobilization and equal dialogue between local authorities and Roma communities.
The selection criteria for the ´Most Roma-friendly Mayor´ will help the communities to make their vision heard, and also give ideas how municipalities and the Roma community could work together and engage in a dialogue on an equal level. Campaign is going to be conducted on the basis of a questionnaire that will be filled in by the Mayor of each municipality. Afterwards, decision board, established within the project, will select the winner of the contest “Most Roma-friendly Mayor”.
The winner of the competition will be rewarded with a trip to Brussels for International Roma Day, on 8 April, 2018 and will be given the opportunity to attend the “Roma Day” Conference.

Deadline for application submission is 25 February 2018 and the announcement of the winner will be posted on 5 March 2018 on the web page www.otaharin.org.
