EU supports better media reporting on social dialogue in BiH

Journalists from Bosnia and Herzegovina and representatives of RS employers’ associations in had an opportunity, during a two-day workshop, to discuss openly about the perspectives of media reporting on social dialogue.

Within the project “Support to Social Partners in Social Dialogue”, funded by the EU, a press workshop was held by the Union of Employers’ Associations of RS, on 11 and 12 January this year in Banja Vrućica near Teslić.

Journalists and other participants of the workshop focused on discussion about the challenges and potentials of reporting in the digital age. Representatives of employers’ associations had the opportunity to hear from journalists what information they needed and what was interesting for the media and the general public.

“We managed to answer a number of questions that are important for good media reporting on social dialogue in BiH, all in order to better inform the general public,” concluded the president of the RS Union of Employers’ Associations (UEARS) Dragutin Skrebić.

Participants also discussed possibilities for improving communication between social partners and media, on the processes of adopting public policies, as well as on the role of media in achieving a greater understanding of the social dialogue.

“Over the past two days, we have been able to discuss and get answers to a number of issues that are relevant for the quality of the media reporting, but also to present our journalistic views on how social partners can improve their collaboration with the media, what information is interesting for the media, and what is the role social networks in advocacy and reporting,” concluded Tamara Ćuruvija, editor at RTRS.

Jelena Katić, “Support to Social Partners in Social Dialogue” Team Leader, emphasised the importance of citizens being well informed about social dialogue mechanisms in BiH.

“Qualitative and easily available media reporting on social dialogue is crucial for well-informed citizens, who will be able to understand the way in which public policy debates, through the mechanism of social dialogue, affect the quality of their lives,” Katić said.

The “Support to Social Partners in Social Dialogue” project is funded by the European Union in BiH amounting to EUR 482,000 aiming to support the improvement of social dialogue in BiH.
