EU in BiH discusses local development priorities, culture and youth issues in Stari Grad Sarajevo

Chargé d’Affaires of the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina Khaldoun Sinno met today with the Mayor of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality Ibrahim Hadžibajrić and visited some of the major cultural institutions in this Municipality, the Bosniak Institute and the Gazi Husrev-bey Library.

Mayor Hadžibajrić presented development priorities, challenges and future plans of this municipality. Chargé d’Affaires Sinno welcomed these efforts and stressed that effective local governance is key to socio-economic development at the local level and wider. He added that a local community has an important role to play in the EU integration process.

Chargé d’Affaires Sinno also met with members of the Stari Grad Youth Council, the umbrella organisation of all youth associations from this Municipality, focusing on work in the fields of youth activism and education. In a vibrant discussion, these young people expressed their interest in a number of EU-related of issues including coordination within EU institutions, human rights issues and renewable energy. Sinno emphasised that young people can and should prepare to take their part in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s efforts on its road to the EU, especially through fighting for positive changes and their better future.
