“Social dialogue” project helps draft amendments to the RS Employment mediation and unemployment rights act

Under the auspices of the EU-funded “Social Partners in Social Dialogue” project, a meeting of the Working Group aimed at drafting amendments to the RS Act on Employment Mediation and the Unemployment Rights was held from 19 to 21 April 2017.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the RS Ministry of Labour and Veterans, RS Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, RS Employment Service, RS Inspectorate, Union of Trade Unions of RS, RS Trade Union Confederation, Union of Employers’ Associations of RS, European Union Delegation in BiH, as well as the project experts.

Upon presenting the relevant analyses, and sharing opinions of key actors, the proposals for the necessary amendments to the Act were partially agreed on. The Working Group will continue its work based on additional analyses of solutions proposed in the meeting. Only after that would the amendments of the Act be referred to further procedure and adoption before the competent authorities.

The representatives of competent RS authorities and other participants of the working group emphasised that the amendments to the existing Act respond to the requirements of the Reform Agenda and the needs of the labour market of RS.

Jelena Katić, the Team Leader of the project “Supporting Social Partners in Social Dialogue,” emphasised that it was crucial that all relevant parties at all levels were genuinely involved in the process. “Constructive and efficient dialogue is key to finding a solution that leads to the final adoption of the law. The aim is to improve the country’s economic future on the European path,” Katić said.

The project “Social Partners in Social Dialogue”, funded by the European Union in BiH in the amount of EUR 482,000, aims to support the improvement of social dialogue in BiH. The project began in January 2016 and will last until January 2018.
