Deputy Head Khaldoun Sinno visits Banja Luka

Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Khaldoun Sinno began a two-day visit to Banja Luka with a lecture at the Banja Luka Faculty of Political Science on the subject “A question of identity in the EU”, on Thursday, 6 April 2017.

Speaking to students about EU enlargement as a successful peace project, Deputy Head Sinno also emphasised the opportunities offered by the EU single market. “Today including more than 500 million individuals, it provides free movement of people, goods, services and capital. That means the opportunity to travel, study, work and do business across the Union. It also means rising living standards with competitively-priced services and goods,” Sinno said.

Deputy Head Sinno visited the Banja Luka Basic Court, the renovation and reparation is under way with the help of EU financial assistance, as part of a major reconstruction project worth EUR 3.5 million.

Deputy Head Sinno further met with the RS Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Stevo Mirjanić, where they discussed the current activities and challenges in the agriculture sector. During the meeting, Deputy Head Sinno emphasised the importance of adoption of the countrywide strategy on agriculture and rural development in order to unlock potential EU funding for the sector.

Sinno also met with Assistant Minister at the RS Economic Relations and Regional Cooperation Ministry, Radmila Dragišić, with whom he also discussed activities related to the European Commission’s Questionnaire.

At a meeting with RS Chamber of Commerce President Borko Đurić and the Chamber Director Dragica Ristić, the interlocutors discussed the challenges the business community faces, the efficiency of public administration as well as the importance of business investments.

During his visit, Sinno further visited Miltex company, which produces labour/work clothes, and is known for contributing to the employment of women in the area. Sinno also gave an interview to the local ATV station.
