The seminar “One Health”, organised by the EU-funded project “Technical Assistance in Coordination of Animal Disease Control and Eradication Programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina – Phase III” was held in Mostar on 29 November 2016.

This seminar on epidemiology of rabies and brucellosis in BiH, organised in cooperation with the Veterinary Office of BiH as the lead project beneficiary institution, brought together veterinarians and epidemiologists in the field of public health, inspectors, laboratory specialists and other technical experts involved in the control and monitoring of rabies and brucellosis in BiH. Participants also discussed about other zoonoses – infectious diseases, common for humans and some animal species which can be transmitted from animals to humans and vice versa, as an important field in which the close cooperation between doctors and veterinarians is necessary.

The “One Health” approach is a joint effort of multiple disciplines that work together at the local, national and global levels to achieve optimal health of humans, animals and the environment. A guest lecturer, prof. dr Dejan Krnjaić from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Belgrade, spoke about this approach and about pets as a possible source of infection a humans.

This project is funded by the EU through the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA 2012) in the amount of EUR 593,530.00. Its aim is to provide support to the veterinary sector in BiH and to achieve the high level of public and animal health protection in BiH, based on the EU standards.
