Start of the construction of residential buildings for refugees and displaced persons in BiH as a part of the Regional Housing Programme

The contracts for the construction of residential buildings for refugees and displaced persons in BiH were signed by BiH authorities, construction companies and mayors of the BiH municipalities and cities.

This marks the beginning of the construction of permanent housing of refugees and displaced persons in BiH that has been financed from the multi-donor Regional Housing Programme, with the predominant participation of IPA funds provided by the European Union.

This is important progress in the implementation of the Regional Housing Programme, which will support almost 2,000 households in 72 local communities in BiH.

The total value of the Regional Housing Programme (RHP) is EUR 584 million and its aim is to benefit around 74,000 refugees and displaced persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia over a five-year period. The European Union is the largest donor having pledged EUR 234 million, EUR 36 million for BiH.

Leading institution of the State Housing Project in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees, while the implementation of sub-projects is entrusted to the FBiH Ministry of Displaced Persons and Refugees, RS Ministry for Refugees and Displaced Persons and the Government of Brcko District BiH.

List of beneficiary cities and municipalities in BiH: Zenica, Tuzla, Brčko, Banja Luka, Prijedor, Bosanska Gradiška, Bijeljina, Derventa, Bosanski Petrovac, Bosanski Brod, Bileća, Vlasenica, Olovo, Foča, Pale-Prača.
