Khaldoun Sinno, Deputy Head of Delegation, visits Brcko District

New Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Khaldoun Sinno paid first official visit to Brčko District BiH on 21 and 22 September 2016.

During the visit he met with Mayor Anto Domić and Speaker of the Brčko District Assembly Đorđa Kojić. They discussed the important role of the Brčko District in the European integration process of BiH and the EU assistance provided to the Brčko District and its institutions.

Deputy Head Sinno noted a positive sign of commitment from the EU to BiH, as the Member States in the Council invited the Commission to submit its opinion on the membership application. He stressed the need for BiH to continue with reforms in improving economic growth and social justice, rule of law and public administration. In this respect, he welcomed the efforts of the Brčko District government.

Deputy Head Sinno also visited the Youth Centre “Vermont,” the first NGO established and registered in BiH in 1993. It is an independent, non-profit citizens’ association working to improve positions of youth on democratic and non-political principles. So far this NGO has successfully implemented many EU-funded projects and established the Resource Centre and Business Resource Centre through the EU’s assistance.

Together with Mayor Domić, Mr Sinno opened the EU Info Point in Brčko and marked the European Mobility Week.

On the second day of his visit, accompanied by Deputy Chief of Brčko District Police Fahrudin Selimović, Mr Sinno visited the new headquarters of the District Police, whose completion was financed by the EU in the amount of EUR 3.5 million.
