Office of the EU Special Representative supports 17th Mediteran Film Festival

As part of its sponsorship activities, the Office of the European Union Special Representative in BiH (EUSR) supported this year’s Mediteran Film Festival (MFF) – a documentary film festival which opened on Wednesday, 24 August in Široki Brijeg.

At the official opening ceremony, at the packed Borak cinema, a short film titled “On Paper” was screened, which was filmed in Široki Brijeg in the past weeks by high school students and attendees of MFF workshops together with colleagues, young film makers from America, under the leadership of Lucy Eagleson and Tyler Gunderson.

The first day of MFF was marked by screenings of ‘Domestic Authors’ films, including the film “A Second Family” by Široki Brijeg director Zdenko Jurilj, which tells the story of the humanitarian association ‘fra Mladen Hrkać’ which was initiated in Široki Brijeg, and today operates in the area of BiH and Croatia. This association is a winner of the European Citizen’s Prize 2016, which the European Parliament awards each year for outstanding achievements in promoting better mutual understanding and closer integration between citizens of the Member States, as well as facilitating cross-border or transnational cooperation.

The competition programme of the Festival, which this year encompasses 22 documentaries, was opened by the film “Tourism” by Croatian Director Tonći Gaćina.
