EU to continue supporting development projects in Srebrenica, Ambassador Wigemark says during Investment Conference

“The important event today builds on the support we and our international partners have provided over the past 20 years, and we look forward to continuing support to development projects in Srebrenica and the region to create jobs and provide for sustainable returns,” said the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU Special Representative, Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, during Investment and Development Conference „Srebrenica 2015“ on 11 November 2015.

The aim of the Conference is to create a positive political climate, and to attract strong financial support for development, infrastructure and other projects in the Srebrenica municipality.

Ambassador Wigemark recognised that the comprehensive set of reforms initiated in BiH is important for improving the socio-economic outlook of Srebrenica, and that the region will attract investors with good economic and investment opportunities. Wigemark said that the EU advocates regional cooperation, integration and equal treatment and prosperity for everyone, and he is looking forward to the day this region becomes part of the European Union.

Over the years, the EU has provided some 10 million EUR worth of support to Srebrenica and the surrounding municipalities with particular focus on reintegration of life into the community and on building the potential for economic growth and development.

At the beginning of his visit to Srebrenica, Ambassador Wigemark laid a wreath at the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Centre.
