EU Floods Recovery Programme restores normal living conditions in Petrovo municipality

On 10 October 2015, a bridge over the Jadrina river in the Petrovo municipality, reconstructed through the EU Floods Recovery Programme, was officially opened. This is the latest EU-funded post-flood reconstruction in the municipality, worth 27,242.65 Euros.

“Thanks to this project of the European Union, citizens of the Municipality of Petrovo now have a brand new and better bridge, facilitating easier communication between local communities,” said Ozren Petković, Mayor of Petrovo.

In addition, the European Union invested 60,586.55 Euros in the municipality of Petrovo to fully rehabilitate the Primary School Vuk Karadžić, attended by 193 students, and provided classrooms with laboratory equipment worth 14,841.71 Euros.

Nine local families also saw their homes recovered through the Programme, whose total investment in the municipality amounts to nearly 140,000 Euros. So far, through the communal infrastructure rehabilitation, the EU Floods Recovery Programme has restored 46 local bridges, 45 roads and 22 water supply systems in 24 municipalities covered by the intervention.

EU Floods Recovery Programme was launched in order to restore normal living conditions in local communities and ensure that the aid reaches the most vulnerable after the floods in May 2014. Financial assistance is used for rehabilitation of facilities for the provision of public services, infrastructure, housing units for vulnerable persons, and socioeconomic recovery of local communities. The total value of the programme is 43.52 million Euros, of which 42.24 million Euros is provided by the European Union. This assistance is a part of the funds that the European Union pledged to allocate at the donor conference held in Brussels in July 2014. The Programme is implemented by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Fund for Children (UNICEF) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
