EUSR supports major regional conference on leadership and talent

One of the largest regional conferences on talent and leadership development – DRIVE 2015 – was supported this year by the Office of the European Union Special Representative in BiH. Organised by Posao.ba with the UK Embassy to Bosnia and Herzegovina as a main partner, the conference took place on 30 September in Sarajevo. Over the last five years the event has brought together over 1,200 participants from across the region and more than 100 of the world’s leading experts in the field.

The aim of the conference is to encourage employers in BiH and the region to develop human resource management in order to create new jobs, as well as improve work and development conditions for existing employees. This year it gathered some 200 experts in the field of leadership, talent management, human resources management and labour law.

A series of interactive presentations, panel discussions and workshops took place during this leadership and talent conference.  The EUSR hosted a panel discussion under its campaign motto for economic issues, “Gledaj, od čega ćes živjet” (Think about what you will live on). Over the past 18 months the EUSR has spearheaded a movement focusing on socio-economic improvements in BiH – finding ways to make it easier to do business and to encourage the employment of young people. While these efforts have mainly focused on regulatory improvements, Education and Employment Fairs held in Zenica and Banja Luka have clearly shown that while BiH waits for much needed structural reforms, much can be done to get more young people activated in the labour market.

The panel discussion focused on the issue of activation of the labour force, presented the results from the two past Education and Employment Fairs and announced the third fair, which is to be held in Mostar in the late autumn of 2015.
