Dr Renzo Daviddi, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the EU Delegation to BiH supports the civil society action “I am the Museum”

Dr Renzo Daviddi,  Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH participated today in the ‘duty shift for the Museum’ and expressed his support for the civil society action “I am Museum”. Dr Daviddi joined numerous citizens of BiH, representatives of governmental and nongovernmental bodies and EUD/EUSR staff in working a shift in the Museum and helping to raise awareness of the case of the currently closed National Museum.

Following his visit, Dr Daviddi said that it is shame the Museum is closed and added: “This Museum is Bosnia and Herzegovina’s treasure, it is very important for preserving culture and tradition which will be inherited by the future generations. Also, it can be seen as a significant resource for attracting tourists and it truly has a great potential. I think it is very significant for the Museum to reopen and not just from donor funds, but to make it a form of entrepreneurship which will grow and cultivate this resource, something which is done in many other countries. Cultural inheritance is part of economy and business too.”

The aim of the action, which will last until 4th October 2015, is to remind everyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina and internationally that the National Museum has been closed for almost three years, and to motivate those in charge of resolving the matter of financing the Museum.

The National Museum is the oldest institution of its kind in BiH and the first one in South Eastern Europe built with this specific purpose. It is an institution of the highest cultural, historical and scientific significance, preserving the cultural heritage of all people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
