The disastrous floods that affected Bosnia and Herzegovina in May 2014 affected around a quarter of the territory of BiH and around 1 million people. Nearly 50% of municipalities were severely hit by the floods.

The EU launched the EU Floods Recovery Programme, worth 43.52 million Euros, following its pledge at the Donors’ Conference in Brussels in July 2014, with the aim to quickly restore normal living conditions for the most vulnerable people in flood-affected communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Programme aims to rehabilitate 4,000 dwellings for approximately 14,000 people, 100 local roads and bridges, 90 educational institutions (including pre-school facilities), 10 water and sanitation facilities, three municipality buildings, four Centres for social welfare, and four healthcare facilities.  By May 2015 the EU Floods Recovery Programme had completed rehabilitation of 100 public buildings and generating jobs.
