EU Info Centre marked European Climate Diplomacy Day with exhibition of children’s artworks

On June 17 on the occasion of European Climate Diplomacy Day, the EU Info Centre in Sarajevo organised an exhibition of children’s artworks created on 1 June during the eco-graphics workshop implemented in cooperation with visual BiH artist, Taida Jašarević, and students from the elementary school “Musa Ćazim ati” in Sarajevo.

The Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH, Ambassador Lars -Gunnar Wigemark, German Ambassador to BiH, Christian Hellbach, and Ambassador of the Republic of France in BiH, Claire Bodonyi, welcomed those present at the opening of the exhibition, which symbolically represents the children’s perspective on global climate change.

“Climate change is the most important challenge facing us all. Us – the adults – but in particular the children, the next generation. So it is great to see these artworks here produced by the children about climate change. I am also proud to say that climate change is a major priority for the European Union. We have many priorities but I can safely say that climate change is one of the major ones,” said Ambassador Wigemark.

BiH artist Taida Jašarević said that during the workshop children from the art section of the elementary school Musa Ćazim Ćatić in Sarajevo had the opportunity to learn new methods and processes when creating the images.

“We hope that this process will stimulate their imagination and curiosity and encourage them to continue developing their creativity in the field of art,” concluded Jašarević.

Climate change is one of the major challenges of the 21st century, presenting risks for international prosperity and security. The first German-UK-French Climate Diplomacy Day was held on 9 September 2014. Events held that day in German, British and French missions in over 30 countries highlighted the importance of EU climate diplomacy partnership, showcased successful climate projects, and emphasised the need for ongoing climate action.

This year the EU marked a second European Climate Diplomacy Day on 17 June 2015 with events in European capital cities and at overseas missions. Climate Diplomacy Day seeks to highlight the positive action that is being taken around the globe in cooperation with the EU and its Member States, and to encourage informed debate and a joint response to climate change.

The exhibition was opened in the premises of the EU Info Centre from 17 June to 1 July 2015.

The EU Info Centre is a project funded by the European Union and aims to increase understanding among BiH citizens of the EU, its institutions, policies and programmes and the relations between BiH and the EU.
