Statement by the Spokesperson of the European Union Delegation and EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Andy McGuffie

“The Delegation of the European Union/EU Special Representative’s Office welcomes yesterday’s decision by the BiH House of Representatives to adopt Conclusions  establishing an Interim Joint Committee in the BiH Parliamentary Assembly to implement the decision of the European Court of Human Rights’ in relation to the Sejdic-Finci case vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina. With this step the House of Representatives confirms that BiH Parliamentary Assembly recognises the importance of the Sejdic/Finci judgment and the immediate need to implement it.

“The EU encourages the Committee to meet as soon as possible to proceed with the election of the President and the two Deputy Chairs and adopt the rules of procedures in order to start preparing the amendments to the BiH Constitution and BiH Election Law  in line with the agreed deadlines.

“At the same time the  Delegation of the European Union/EU Special Representative’s Office also urges the BiH Parliamentary Assembly to urgently adopt EU-acquis compatible laws on State Aid and on holding a Population Census. These are key issues for BiH’s furhter progress on the EU agenda.”
