The EU funded project „Support to the implementation of the IPPC Directive in Bosnia and Herzegovina” (see www.ippc.ba) will provide training on a new environmental data reporting system on 14, 15, 16 and 17 June 2011 in Hotel ‘Grand’, Sarajevo.

EU standards prescribe the obligation to report data on industrial pollution (emissions to the air, water and waste) to the European Union institutions and make them available to the public. Additionally, Bosnia and Herzegovina is obliged to make industrial pollution data accessible by the public as a signatory of the Kiev Protocol of the Aarhus Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters.

In BiH, reporting of pollutants and releases to air, water and waste reporting is an issue regulated by laws on environmental protection at Entity level. However, there is a need for harmonization of data reporting in accordance with the standards of the European legislation. This will enable BiH to report data in the required format to the EU level institutions once Bosnia and Herzegovina makes headway in the process of EU integration.

On the 14 and 15 June, representatives from Industry and the Chamber of Commerce will receive training on data collection and reporting to their respective ministries.

16 and 17 June are dedicated for training of key staff of FBiH Ministry of Environment and Tourism, RS Ministry of Civil Engineering, Physical Planning and Environment and Department of Planning and Property Affairs, Brčko District. The staff will be trained on handling and processing of emissions data submitted by the Industry.
