Diplomatic Corps’ Humanitarian Action

On 8 May 2007, members of the Diplomatic Corps gathered in the Bosniak Institute in Sarajevo to attend an auction and sale of handicrafts in benefit of humanitarian actions.  The proceeds of the auction were destined for two children’s homes: Bjelave in Sarajevo and Duga in Donji Vakuf.

BHcrafts was started as a humanitarian project by the NGO Norwegian People’s Aid in 1995 and has grown into a successful export-oriented business which produces handmade clothing and decorative items. It enables 700 women to support themselves and their families.

The children from the Bjelave orphanage modelled the BHcrafts spring-summer collection. In addition to the items on auction, guests were able to buy other items, with these proceeds going directly to BHcraft.

Ambassador Dimitris Kourkoulas, Head of Delegation of the European Commission in BiH officiated as auctioneer and thus helped raise a total of 7,350 KM.
