Ambassador Wigemark meets with the leaderships of the BiH Parliament’s Houses

Head of EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU Special Representative, Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, met today with the leaderships of the two Houses of the BiH Parliament, headed by the Speaker of the BiH House of Representatives, Mr Sefik Dzaferovic, and the Speaker of the BiH House of Peoples, Mr Barisa Colak.

Ambassador Wigemark stressed the important role parliaments have to play in the EU integration process:

“Harmonising BiH laws with the EU’s laws is an enormous task ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The country will need to adjust its laws with a body EU of legislation developed over decades. This will be at the heart of our cooperation.” Ambassador Wigemark added that the EU is ready to provide technical assistance and advice to ensure that BiH meets its obligations in a timely and proper manner.

Ambassador Wigemark also recalled that the Stabilisation and Association Agreement enters into force as of 1 June 2015, underlining how with the SAA the relationship between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Union will deepen economically, institutionally and politically.
