Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and EU Special Representative Ambassador Sorensen visits Srebrenica and Tuzla

The Head of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU Special Representative, Ambassador Peter Sorensen, visited Memorial Centre “Srebrenica-Potocari Memorial and Cemetery for the Victims of 1995 Genocide” on 15 March 2012. Ambassador Sorensen laid flowers and paid his respects to the memory of those who were killed in Srebrenica in 1995.

In addition to his visit to Memorial Centre Ambassador Sorensen meet with representatives of local authorities.

Ambassador also visited Podrinje Identification Project Mortuary and Identification Coordination Division in Tuzla where he met with representatives of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP).

“As a human being and a father, I am deeply moved with what I saw in Memorial Centre ‘Srebrenica-Potocari Memorial and Cemetery for the Victims of 1995 Genocide’ and ICMP facilities. People suffered in ways that words cannot express. The victims are not only those who were killed and those missing, but also their families who are fully entitled to know the fate of their loved ones”, HoD/EUSR stated to media representatives in Tuzla. He commended ICMP staff for their work and commitment. “Such scientific work is critical to the process of truth and justice”, he concluded.

Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH, Ambassador Peter Sorensen, met with Mayor of Tuzla, Jasmin Imamović, as well. Ambassador Sorensen and Mayor Imamovic discussed the economical development of municipality of Tuzla, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mayer informed Ambassador that Tuzla municipality has already implemented its current development strategy and is preparing Development Strategy for the period of 2012-2026.
