Euromelanoma campaign in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Head of EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH, Ambassador Peter Sorensen, attended the first Euromelanoma campaign in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday, 7 May 2012.

Speaking at the opening of campaign, Ambassador Sorensen commended dermatologists in Bosnia and Herzegovina for being part of the campaign, which is excellent example of European integration at the level of one profession. “Skin cancer does not choose its victims by age or by life style. My home country has the highest rate of skin cancer in Europe. Sadly, it is closely followed by Western Balkans countries”, Ambassador said.

Free skin examinations are provided for the citizens within this campaign from 7 to 11 May this year at the Dermatological Clinic of the University Clinical Center in Sarajevo.

Examinations are being done with the latest dermatoscope installed in this clinic. Every year, 14 000 Europeans die from melanoma, which is completely curable if detected at an early stage.
