Time for progress and work in Srebrenica – Sorensen

Commenting on the CEC certification of the municipal election results in Srebrenica, Ambassador Peter Sorensen, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina/EU Special Representative, said:

“We have seen the full use of the domestic process for election complaints, which has allowed for all to use their rights within the legal provisions. The institutions have done their job and the process has now concluded. The certification must be accepted and respected.

“We underline that building stable democracy on all levels including municipalities is a key element of the ‘Copenhagen criteria’ that form part of the path to the EU for all aspirant member states.

“Citizens in Srebrenica now require, through the normal local political process, the establishment of functioning municipal authorities that can get to work on improving the quality of life for all.  It is the time to reach a local solution – we call upon all the local parties to do so – and to make progress in addressing the citizens’ top concerns.”
