Deputy Head of EU Delegation Daviddi on the amendments to the Law on the Single Reference Number

At Tuesday’s (26 March) session of the BiH House of Representatives the draft proposal of the amendments to the Law on Single Reference Number was rejected. This is the second proposal which has been rejected in the last two weeks aiming to implement the relevant BiH Constitutional Court decision and make sure that newborn babies can obtain a fundamental right, namely a Single Reference Number.

Commenting on the issue, Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Renzo Daviddi, said: “Following the session, a number of political statements calling upon Republika Srpska’s National Assembly to adopt an entity Law on Single Reference Number were made. Such statements are counterproductive and endanger the existing single system of the method of issuing Single Reference number in the whole country. They also do not contribute to the swift implementation of the BiH Constitutional Court ruling.

We encourage all sides to resolve the issue of Single Reference Number as soon as possible and restart a constructive dialogue, leading to a new draft Law of amendments to be adopted urgently at the BiH Parliamentary Assembly. EUD/EUSR stands ready to provide all the necessary support.”
