Ambassador Sorensen and Sarajevo Mayor Komsic visit the Sarajevo City Hall

The reconstruction of and care for monuments of historical and cultural importance in BiH are on the top of the agenda for the EU in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Head of EU Delegation and EU Special Representative to BiH, Ambassador Peter Sorensen said today. He was visiting the Sarajevo City Hall – where the fourth and final phase of the reconstruction is being implemented – together with Sarajevo Mayor Ivo Komsic and the Mayor’s deputies, Ranko Covic and Aljosa Campar. “I am very pleased that the EU is participating in the project of the City Hall reconstruction”, added Ambassador Sorensen.

The Mayor of Sarajevo thanked the EU for all the financial support given so far, especially the one concerning the reconstruction of the City Hall.

“Thanks to our efforts, but also to support of numerous friends, countries and cities, including the EU, this symbol of Sarajevo will be restored very soon to its previous state”, added Mayor Komsic.

The aim of the visit was to see the implementation of the contract between the EU Delegation in BiH, contractor company „Unigradnja“ Sarajevo, the company that monitors progress, Safege, and the beneficiaries: the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the City of Sarajevo. According to the contract, signed in March last year, 5 million Euros was approved from the EU’s IPA funds. They are directed to implementation of the fourth phase of the reconstruction, which includes plumbing, plaster and painted decorations, and other works in the interior of the building. The European Union has so far, invested more than 8 million overall in the renovation of the City Hall.
