EU diplomats visit Bosanski Petrovac

The Head of the EUSR Political Department, Thomas Busch, the Deputy Head of the Czech Embassy, Slavomir Goga and the Head of the Diplomatic Bureau of Belgium in BiH, Mr. Jean-Pierre Biebuyck, visited Bosanski Petrovac on Wednesday, 23 October 2013.

This was an opportunity for the Head of the EUSR Political Department and diplomats from EU Member States accredited to Bosnia and Herzegovina to discuss EU related issues with local authorities, meet with civil society representatives and visit the IPA financed project in Bosanski Petrovac.

Mr Busch and the EU diplomats met with the Mayor of Bosanski Petrovac, Zlatko Hujić, and Chairman of the Municipal Council Dušan Došen. They afterwards jointly visited the EU funded project of construction of the wastewater network and urban wastewater treatment plant. The project is a component of the “Water and Sanitation Project in FBIH (so-called WATSON), co-funded by IPA and implemented with a contribution agreement with the EIB in total amount of 12 million Euro.

“The EU funds a wide variety of projects aimed at helping Bosnia and Herzegovina get ready to join the EU. This specific project will ensure that citizens can drink unpolluted water and the 100 – year old sewage system gets a major upgrade. Although many EU funded projects deals with more administrative – but no less important issues – there is an equal number such as this one that visibly and directly help local communities”, said Mr Busch.

The visit to Bosanski Petrovac was concluded by a meeting with the Bihac-Petrovac Bishop of the Serb Orthodox Church, Atanasije.
