Ambassador Sorensen awarded Foreign Personality of the Year by daily Dnevni avaz

Head of EU Delegation in BiH and EU Special Representative, Ambassador Peter Sorensen, has been awarded with ‘Avaz’s Dragon’, an annual recognition for the Foreign Person of the Year in BiH by the daily Dnevni avaz.

As explained by the award collegium, Ambassador Sorensen came to Bosnia and Herzegovina to an atmosphere of political blockade and stalemate and though an experienced diplomat, he was facing a special challenge. However, he became the most important and the most positive international factor in BiH, while his engagement in Brussels produced concrete instruments that should help BiH in moving forward to the EU.

Accepting the award, Ambassador Sorensen said:

“I am very honoured to receive this award. But it is not me – it is my team, 153 people that work with me – and it is their efforts, their skills and their dedication that have brought us to where we want to be. Namely, to be one of the most serious partners for Bosnia and Herzegovina.  I also want to thank to the 28 member-states of the EU. We represent here over 500 million people and 28 member-states. We are the biggest trade hub in the world and we want BiH to be a member with us. And finally, thank you very much to the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina and for the way you receive us when we are out there.”

The award ceremony was held in the Avaz HQ in Sarajevo on 23 December 2013 and was attended by the representatives of institutions, business, international and civil society community.
