Amendments to the law on excise duties are currently in parliamentary procedure and it appears they are not harmonized with European standards. Therefore, the EU is suggesting postponement of the adoption of such legislation and further discussion, in order to avoid discrimination against beer importers to BiH.

The issue was first discussed at the 5th EU-BiH Sub-committee meeting on trade, industry, customs, taxation and cooperation with other candidate countries. The EU underlined that there must be no different treatment of domestic and foreign companies (point 11 of the Recommendations of the EU of 26 February 2013).
