EU Reportages: Roma in Bosnia and Herzegovina – between prejudice and discrimination

Roma are the largest single minority living in the European Union, with numbers estimated to be between 10 and 12 million. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the circa 80,000 Roma make them the largest of the 17 national minorities.

As in many countries within the Western Balkans and Europe more widely, Roma remain the most vulnerable and most discriminated against minority group; they suffer from disproportionately high levels of unemployment, low levels of education, greater levels of poverty and social exclusion as well as difficult daily living conditions.

A 6yka.com reportage explores how the social inclusion of Roma has been marked as a priority in EU Enlargement countries, and how EU financial assistance has already helped in the implementation of countrywide Action Plans on health, education and employment and in improving their access to housing.
