Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr Renzo Daviddi together with the Ambassador of Croatia Ivan del Vechio, Ambassador of Romania, Filip Teodorescu, and the Ambassador of Sweden, Fredrik Schiller visited Tešanj and Doboj on 19 March 2014.
The visits to Tesanj and Doboj were part of a series of visits to different municipal communities across BiH, in order for EU diplomats to learn more about the social, economic and political situation in local communities, and to talk with the local authorities, the business community and civil society about the different tasks involved with regard to the integration process.
On the occasion, Dr. Daviddi said: “The EU team here in BiH, as always, are making it a priority to travel around the country Bosnia and Herzegovina as much as possible in order to discuss EU integration in local communities. Irrespective of whatever political issues there are at the moment, the EU agenda in BiH continues”. Dr. Daviddi emphasised that he encountered many positive and dynamic examples of good work in local communities than was the case at higher levels of authorities in BiH.
During the visit to Tešanj, Dr. Daviddi spoke with Municipal Mayor Suad Huskić and Head of the Municipality’s Department of Finance, Utilities and Inspections Hamzalija Hojkurić.
The delegation also visited a secondary vocational school in Tešanj, which was part of the IPA funded project “STARS – Strengthening resources for adult education in technical and vocational schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina.” The visit ended with a meeting with local business where there was a discussion about the implementation of the local strategy for socio-economic development.
After visiting Tešanj, the delegation travelled to the Municipality of Doboj, where they met with the Mayor, Obren Petrović, and Chair of the Municipal Council, Esmin Mahmutović. During the meeting with the delegation, the Mayor spoke about the implementation of the local 2011 to 2020 Development Strategy. After the meeting, the delegation met with the President of the District Court in Doboj, Duško Ninković.
The visit concluded with a visit to the studio of the ethno furniture craftsperson, Sreten Aleksic.
