Ambassador Sorensen plants 127th lime tree in the Ambassadors’ Alley

Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH, Ambassador Peter Sorensen, together with the Mayor of Stari Grad (Sarajevo), Ibrahim Hadzibajric, planted today a lime tree in the Ambassadors’ Alley, the popular pedestrian stretch ‘Dariva’. This is the 127th lime tree to be planted in the Ambassadors’ Alley by an international representative in BiH.

Ambassador Sorensen was presented with the ownership plaque for the tree by Mayor Hadzibajric and he also visited the Ambassadors’ Museum where he placed nameplate on the roster of Ambassadors who have planted a lime tree in the Alley.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Sorensen said:

“I am very honoured to become a member of the Ambassadors’ Alley and would like to thank to Mayor Hadzibajric for the kind invitation. This tradition demonstrates that BiH has friends who wish it well and especially friends in the EU. It is also a nice symbol of the way Sarajevo has welcomed many international people as residents and guests.”

The Ambassadors’ Alley is a project established in 2002 by the Municipality Stari Grad with the aim to promote friendship between BiH and countries and international organizations whose Ambassadors served in BiH. The Alley project also promotes environmental awareness and necessity to protect the unique natural environment of the Dariva pedestrian stretch, which is only few hundred metres away from Sarajevo’s old town.

Following the ceremony, the Mayor hosted Ambassador Sorensen at the Municipality’s newly established info and press centre in the old city. The Ambassador congratulated the Mayor on this initiative to provide facilities for visitors to the city and wished all the staff good luck in their work.
