Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH, Ambassador Sorensen, hosted a reception to honour the BiH Journalists Association yesterday in the EU House in Sarajevo. The reception was attended by members of the Association, EU Member States ambassadors, representatives of international organizations in BiH and BiH media directors, editors and journalists.
Speaking at the reception, Ambassador Sorensen said:
“If Enlargement is to function we need to have free and pluralistic media that can work with the critical and inqusitory questions to take the country from where it is now into the EU. We know that these things often do not come easily and for free but you can be sure that the EU in BiH will do its part in order to enable this to happen”.
Thanking the Ambassador Sorensen for being the hosts of reception, the Secretary-General of the BiH Journalists Association, Borka Rudic, said:
“The media need the support in order to fight all the challenges that are ahead and to deflect the pressure present in the country, in both entities. Only in this way, freedom of speech and freedom of media can be installed properly”.
Ambassador Sorensen used the opportunity of the reception to promote the new European Commission’s the Guidelines for EU support to media freedom and media integrity in enlargement countries 2014 – 2020.
