Ambassador Sorensen and EU diplomats visit Trebinje

Head of EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH Ambassador Peter Sorensen and a group of EU diplomats accredited to Bosnia and Herzegovina visited Trebinje today to discuss EU related issues with local authorities. The European Union assists Bosnia and Herzegovina in its European path but also assists local communities to improve life of their citizens. Therefore, important EU funded projects have been implemented in the city of Trebinje. Presently, one of the most important projects is the extension of the water supply network worth 5.6 million EUR, for which the EU will contribute 1.2 million EUR from Instrument for Pre-Accession funds.

Addressing media after the meeting with the Mayor of Trebinje, Slavko Vucurevic, and President of the City of Trebinje Assembly, Slobodan Prtilo, Amabassador Sorensen stressed the importance of tourism for this region, which neighbours the coast of Croatia and the coast of Montenegro. The Ambassador also stressed the benefits of EU assistance in promoting economic growth in the region. “The aim of our visit today is specifically to hear about plans regarding the business environment and tourism development”, Ambassador Sorensen said.

In line with the other sectors in which the EU is active in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Sorensen and the EU diplomats also visited the District Court of Trebinje, the Republika Srpska Regulatory Commission for Energy and the site of the water reservoir ‘Krs’. All of them are beneficiaries of EU assistance funds.

During the visit, Ambassador Sorensen was accompanied by the Ambassador of Spain, Maria Aurora Mejia Errasquin, the Ambassador of Romania, Filip Teodorescu, the Ambassador of Croatia, Ivan Del Vechio, the Ambassador of Sweden, Frederik Schiller, the Ambassador of Austria, Martin Pammer, the Head of Belgian Diplomatic Bureau, Jean-Pierre Biebuyck and the Deputy Head of the Embassy of France, Francois Legue.
